Fragile labels

Fragile labels flag parcels that need careful handling in transit — a low-cost prompt to couriers and sorters handling breakables like glass, ceramics and electronics. Bright, clear warning labels on the roll are quick to apply at the packing bench.

Be realistic about what they do: a label is a nudge, not a guarantee. The protection that actually prevents damage is inside the box — cushioning around the item and void fill so it can't move. Use labels to reinforce good packing, not replace it.

How to use fragile labels well

  • Apply to the top and at least one side so it's visible however the parcel sits
  • Add a 'this way up' label where orientation matters
  • Don't rely on labels alone — cushion and fill the box first
  • Keep them clear of the shipping label and barcode

What actually reduces breakages

Damage is almost always caused by movement or an under-protected item — not a missing label. Get the packing right and the label becomes a useful extra, not your main defence.

  • Wrap the item in bubble wrap or foam
  • Fill every gap over ~3cm with void fill
  • Right-size the box so contents can't shift
  • Use a double-wall box for heavy or very fragile goods

Before you order, check

  • The internal size fits your product with room for protection
  • The pack quantity matches how fast you get through them
  • Postage banding — will it post as a Large Letter or a parcel?
  • Whether you need a stronger grade for weight or transit
  • If a recyclable or plastic-free option suits your customers

Common buyer questions

Frequently asked questions

Do fragile labels guarantee careful handling?
No label can guarantee it — treat them as a helpful prompt, not a promise. The reliable protection is packing the item properly: cushioning plus void fill in a right-sized box.
Where should I put a fragile label?
On the top and at least one side, so it's visible however the parcel is stacked. Keep it away from the shipping label and barcode so it doesn't interfere with scanning.
Fragile label or fragile tape?
Both do the same job — warning tape doubles as a seal, so it's efficient if you're taping anyway, while labels are handy on bags or already-sealed boxes. Many packers use whichever suits the parcel.
